I. Restricted Free Agency
Restricted Free Agency (RFA) is a chance to re-sign your own players. Let me explain that RFA is not meant to re-sign everyone, but to prioritize who you'd like to keep, and then pay to keep them. For most players (but not all), in order to sign them in RFA, it will cost more than to sign them in UFA. Players are assigned one of six tiers. Tier 1 players are the superstars (generally top-30), the guys that will command and deserve the big bucks. Tier 6 guys probably should retire and won't ask for much. Most players will fall between Tier 2,3, or 4. You will get two chances to sign a player before he decides to become an unrestricted free agent.

If you choose not to make an offer to a player, they will be insulted and your chance of signing them in UFA will be hurt greatly. Same goes with making a sub-standard offer. A player will ask for a salary range of 200 cap dollars. Offering them something in that range will keep them from being insulted. Also, Tier 1 and 2 players will be insulted if you do not offer guaranteed contracts, and Tier 1 players will be insulted if they don't get a 5 year offer (unless they are over 30). Some players will be insulted but still sign in RFA. Offering a player the top of their salary request will give you about a 80%-85% chance to sign them, while offering them the bottom of the range will result in about a 65%-70% chance to sign them. You may be able to sign them for less than their offer, but they will be at least slightly insulted and the chance of signing them decreases significantly.

One final note on RFA: If you insult a player with your first offer, your chance of signing them will be less than the 80-85% chance mentioned above, even if you offer them their max. This is because they feel disrepected by the first offer and may be more inclined to test the market. Also, offering them more than the max will not help your chances of signing them (but will be appreciated by other owners who'd like nothing better than for you to squander your salary cap $$$). You can offer more than the maximum then to attempt to boost your chances of re-signing that player. The maximum chance of signing any player is 95%.

II. Restricted Free Agency - Tier/Salary Ranges
This section will outline the salary requirements (not including adjustments for players already in the same tier or positional range) for players in RFA. There is a salary floor that is the absolute minimum offer (making an offer between the floor and the salary minimum will insult the player but they may re-sign anyway). The salary maximum is the maximum offer needed given the perfect set of circumstances - in some cases you may need to exceed the maximum to get the 95% chance of re-signing a player. Please note: below are the new expected RFA salary demands as of Season 40.

III. Unrestricted Free Agency - Round 1
Round 1 UFA is your chance to get those superstars who are "testing the market". Only players who are offered 100% or more of their current salary (by at least one team) will sign. Up to six teams (those which make the best offers) who make offers of at least a 3% chance of signing the player will be eligible to sign that player. Each team will be assigned a percentage chance of signing them and a set of numbers, then 3 random numbers are generated. Teams can prioritize which free agents they want to sign more, and can sign up to a total of 26 players on their elite/semipro roster (for next season).

IV. Unrestricted Free Agency - Round 2
Round 2 UFA is like Round 1, except players who are offered at least 80% of their current salary by at least one team will sign with a team.

V. Unrestricted Free Agency - Round 3
Round 3 UFA, any and every player that can re-sign (subject to roster size limits mentioned above) will. Players who do not sign will be sent into the free agent market at their associated minimum contract value (300 for players under 25, 400 for players 25 and over).

VII. College Draft
The college draft is your chance to build your franchise through the youth of the world :) We take players from League 34 in the Drive The Lane college basketball game. Their attributes do not cross-over, but the ratings are based somewhat on their statistics. The top 40 players at each position will go through at least one pre-draft camp to give you a better chance to scout them. I highly recommend purchasing the deluxe package so you can get the special draft newsletters.

The players who win the first two pre-draft camp tournaments as well as those named to the all-camp teams get ratings boosts and advance to the next pre-draft camp to compete against stiffer competition. The draft is held live, and once you have purchased any package you may also trade draft picks and/or players to move up/down in the draft.

A draft lottery is held for all non-playoff teams and determines the top 3 picks in the first round. Also, no CPU-owned teams can get one of the top three draft picks.
All players upon entering the league (drafted and non-drafted) have a 4 year contract.
